A traditional college education is often perceived as the best path to financial success, considering the fact that the typical college graduate earns about two-thirds more than the average worker with only a high school diploma.

But it’s also an expensive path.

With student loan debt now reaching more than $1 trillion — and counting — loans for education have become the second-largest source of consumer debt in the United States. According to Kiplinger, among the nearly 70% of 2014 college grads who borrowed money to pay for school, the average amount of debt owed was $28,950.

So here’s the good news: getting buried in student loan debt is not the only way to get into a successful and high-paying career.

Kiplinger analyzed 784 occupations and found 10 of the best high-paying jobs in expanding fields that don’t require a college degree.
