Online Courses you can Start Now, For Free!

I don’t know about you but I absolutely LOVE learning. I thoroughly enjoyed my degree at university and I miss that aspect of organised learning that I don’t necessarily get at work.

Do you know what I mean?

For a while I’d been thinking about enrolling on a course at our local college but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study. I’m interested in lots of things! And these courses aren’t cheap.

And that is when I discovered the most amazing opportunities to study online and best of all, for FREE!

Here I share with you my experiences of two online learning platforms which I still use now. I can honestly say, I think they are brilliant! If I didn’t work, I’d sit and complete courses all day!

FutureLearn

In short, FutureLearn is a massive open online course (MOOC) learning platform. They offer literally LOADS of free courses and I absolutely love the format. The courses all vary in length. Some were two weeks, some were six weeks.

Each week, you are guided through different content, of which is delivered in the form of text and video. You are encouraged to comment, like and engage with other course members. There are also some assignments to complete. There was no pressure to complete these though on the courses I took. The great thing about FutureLearn is that you can go at your own pace. If you miss a week, no problem, you can catch up the week after. Since starting, I’ve completed a number of courses on digital marketing, journalism and storytelling, all of which have been super useful in my day job. I’ve also done some courses on digestion, health and nutrition.

Coursera

Another MOOC learning platform I like is Coursera. They offer a wider range of courses and it was on this platform that I learnt more about cooking for children and general nutrition by Maya Adams. Coursera courses are also on demand, lasting around four to ten weeks. The content is typically delivered through video or text and you are encouraged to participate in quizzes and exercises.

Both platforms offer the opportunity to purchase certificates of completion if you want to.

Overall, I wish there were 48 hours in each day. There is so much to learn and so little time to do it! Have you taken part in any online learning platforms?

What was your experience? To note, this isn’t a sponsored post or review. This is a write-up of the experiences I have had with both platforms
